This ought to be easy.
This product does not work. Period. Anybody reading this who owns this product and believes they have it working, feel free to post a contrary review. If you do have it working, I would like to speak with you; you may have gotten the one unit that does something.
For those considering purchasing this unit, go to [...] and let me know what you see? Imagine you need support? Do a few Internet searches and read the feedback on the product. I am sure someone is doing well with the product, but it is not the customer. Chalk this one up to the many, many products some of us have fallen for over the years only to get them home and realize, “wow, I’ve been had…I got burnt…shame on me.”
Do yourselves a favor, if your kid wants one of these things just offer to buy them something of equal value.

I purchased this for my ten year old’s DSi. It will not stay inserted in the DSi, it just pops back out. Yes, I have the right version of the device and I am inserting it in the correct direction. There is no tech support info for this model on the manufacturer’s website. The only option seems to be to return it. It works if you hold it in place, though. My son suggested using duct tape, but we decided to return it instead.

Imagine a disappointed seven year old on Christmas morning when the Action Replay will not even stay in his DSi…..the cord included does not have the right connector to be inserted into his DSi. Yes, I bought the correct version for the DSi. I contacted the company and they said it must be defective. So, we can send it back for replacement? I’m returning it. He doesn’t need this.

I picked up one of these today after seeing that it allowed for backup of game saves. It’s not a feature that I plan on using, but there was something that I wanted to try out.
I purchased a few used games from GameFly (Time Hollow, Jake Hunter and Trauma Center 2). Unfortunately, there was no way to reset them to factory settings built into any of them. I wanted to play each one from the beginning without having any bonus features unlocked. That’s where the Action Replay DSi comes into play. I had a theory that I might be able to backup a game save, then restore it to a different game, effectively forcing the cartridge to revert to factory settings.
It worked like a charm.
I was able to use Trauma Center 2 to restore Jake Hunter, Scribblenauts to restore Trauma Center 2, and Professor Layton and the Curious Village to restore Time Hollow (something to do with cartridge information being the wrong size). I then backed up the factory settings for each game so I can pass them onto someone else when I’m through.
On another note, the Action Replay DSi doubles as a new version of the old Games & Music cartridge. I was able to plug in the MicroSD card from my original G&M cartridge and immediately boot up those games, as well as play my homebrew stuff.
As far as the longterm quality that the other reviewers are talking about, I can’t give any insight, but it got the job done for exactly what I wanted it to do.

Allow me to begin with my thanks to the genius who thought up the idea to tinker with game coding…unless he was a hacker? At any rate, it is a grand idea. However, it is kinda sad that his cunning is being slightly degraded by a company such as datel. The software couldn`t have been any better, it did things that would have been tricky elsewhere. Any issues with the product stem from hardware, and codewriting. (sigh) Sadly, trying to find good codes for new games is nigh impossible, and if they would work, i wouldn’t be complaining, but…life just doesn’t work that way. It’ll take time, but the minds at [...] will crank out newer, better codes for my games. I’m a bit worried about what that one guy said, unsoldered parts? Why? unless…unless it was meant to break down…so that people would buy more………nah! That’s…diabolical. Oh, and it will fit in with the silicone case, you just have to remove the top screen from the case. Trust me, I say this as i’m writing this review on my dsi, with my case on, and the bizarre thing jutting out, awkwardly. just don’t take it out, you may never get it back in the same way. You know, that and the soldering problem….
